About Sala Tauanu’u Afalava

Sala is a professional mental health counselor that runs an exclusively online private practice while also working  for a local community mental health agency. Sala is a graduate of Northwest University, where she earned her Masters degree in Counseling Psychology. Her clinical experience is in working with children, adolescents and adults in addressing anxiety, complex trauma, life transitions and relationship concerns.

Sala believes that every person is unique and different and therefore tailors her approach to fit her clients. Her theoretical orientation employs a combination of Person Centered Therapy, Existential approach, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Prolonged Exposure Therapy. She values her relationship with clients and understand the sacredness of each individual and their healing process. Sala is committed to helping her clients and firmly believes in their success.

Sala is a mother to two boys and is married to her husband of 14 years. Together they live in Washington State with a new addition to their family, a Rhodesian ridgeback & pittbull mix name Chief. Prior to being a mental health therapist, Sala served in the military for 15 years. She is among the very few therapists in Washington State that is of Samoan nationality. She is also fluent in the Samoan language.

When Sala is not working, she enjoys watching movies with her family or taking their family dog Chief to play fetch. She also enjoys listening to podcasts or catching up on her Audible books. Sala values time with her close friends and enjoys their occasional get togethers over coffee.
